The Davis Food Co-op has always been guided by the 7 Cooperative Principles. The seventh is “Concern For Community.” We are aware that change is coming for our country, and the Co-op remains committed to the safety and dignity of our staff, our Owners, and our community. We hold space for diversity, for differences of opinion, and for dialogue. We stand for inclusion, and invite every single member of our community to stand with us as we call for an end to actions that divide us and incite hatred. We welcome all races, all religions, all ethnic groups, all sexual orientations and all genders to be a part of our Co-op family, and to stand with us against injustice.

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our Ends, and also in our partnerships. We are proud to work with the following local companies "so that our current and future member-owners and other people in the community have... an improved environment and a more sustainable food system."
Advanced IPM on raptor-friendly pest management,
Whole Systems Design (pictured below in blue tshirts) on ecological landscaping, installation, plantings and more, and
Oakland Packaging on ecological solutions for consumer packaging in our store.
We're an "Owl Wise Leader," and proudly accepted an award from Raptors Are The Solution on July 8, 2016 (photo below). Details and a press release here.
We are members of the Sustainable Food Trade Association, and support their mission to build the capacity of the organic food trade to transition to sustainable business models.
We regularly partner with Yolo county organizations who are addressing and mitigating food insecurity in our community, including the Yolo County Food Bank, STEAC, Elderly Nutrition, Western Service Workers, Davis Community Meals, and the City of Davis, whose commercial composting pilot program helps us divert the maximum amount of food waste from landfills.
Thanks to our generous Owners, we contributed over $3400 to the Short Term Emergency Aid Committee in February 2017!
In 2016, the Co-op moved to a completely organic salad bar. The first in Davis!
In 2017, we were awarded with the Davis Enterprise Readers' Choice for Best Vegetarian Food and Best Health Food/ Organic Store!
Our solar panels are due to be updated. Watch this space for news, and don't forget to vote YES to change our Bylaws in the Spring 2017 election, so we can harness the power of Owner support for this sustainable choice.
