Recipe: Apple-Cranberry Crisp - #1


1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup whole wheat flour
3 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped fine
5-6 (about 2 lbs) apples
3/4 cup fresh cranberries
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 tsp. ground cloves


Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, salt & 1 tsp. cinnamon. Cut butter into dry ingredients until crumbly. Add walnuts. Wash, core and slice apples thinly (peel if desired). Mix apples, cranberries, sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon and cloves. Transfer apple mixture to large, greased baking pan and spoon oat mixture over top. Bake at 375° until apples are tender and topping is browned, about 55 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes before serving.
