Recipe: Olive Beer Bread


2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 large egg
1 12 oz. bottle beer (not too dark)
1 Tbsp. olive oil
2 cloves garlic, finely minced or mashed
2/3 cup chopped olives
1 tsp. dried oregano


Preheat oven to 350. Grease a loaf pan. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add egg, beer, garlic and oil and mix gently. Add olives and oregano and stir until just mixed. Spoon the batter into a loaf pan and bake 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Turn the loan of the pan and let cool on a rack.
