July’s Feedback Responses

Department Request/Comment Response from the Co-op
Wellness Comment:
While I applaud the Co-op’s support of Plastics Free July, the vitamin/mineral/supplements with the Co-op label have been completely encased in plastic for years. The rationale that it’s for “customer safety” is disingenuous; other brands that don’t encase their bottles in plastic are presumably safe for consumption. What gives? Why the contradiction? Can this be addressed with the manufacturer so as to better align with the Co-ops values?
Email Response:
” Thank you for reaching out with your question about wellness supplements being encased in plastic at the Co-op. This is something that we are having our Wellness Manager reach out to the manufacturer about and hope to have some more information on soon.”

Operations Comment:
Hi, today, when I looked for a box in the box closet, I saw a lot of plastic, including, curiously, a stack of new plastic bags from the Grocery Outlet! Are people dumping plastic in there? I’ve never seen that before. I know that you don’t collect household plastic for recycling (I wish you did…), but perhaps you still recycle store generated plastic (I hope you do). What is up with all the plastic – and in Plastic Free July of all times!?!?! Thanks.

Email Response:

We received your comment regarding plastic bags in the Box Bin. It does appear that people have dropped some plastic bags in there recently. Since the space is intended to be open to everyone, this is not something that we have complete control over. I imagine the thought is that someone will reuse those plastic bags rather than going to landfill if they are placed in the Box Bin. We do not currently offer plastic bag recycling as a service but we are looking into it so that we can potentially budget for it moving forward.

Hello! I was wondering if the Co-Op ever shares the recipes for (or teaches how to make) your prepared items. I’ve found that I absolutely love your herb marinated mushrooms and am going to miss them when I leave for college this fall. I would love to know how to make my own or at least get advice for making something similar (as I understand why businesses may be hesitant to share recipes). Thank you!

Email Response:

“Hi Analia, I received your suggestion box request about our Herb Marinated Mushrooms. First of all, I am so happy to hear you love them. While I can’t share our official recipe, I can share a recipe that is very similar that I make in my own kitchen. I’ve included the link to that recipe below. Please let me know if you have any questions. I wish you luck on your learning journey as well! I spent lots of time cooking in my dorm with all kinds of silly work arounds for not having a kitchen. Let me know if you need any tips.
