June’s Feedback Responses

Department Request/Comment Response from the Co-op
Marketing

What if the Co-op did this:

Do you think you will be having a Plant-Based Milk Tasting anytime soon? When do you have beer tastings? Thank you very much.

Email Response:

“Hi Anne, We received your feedback submission asking about some demos at the Davis Food Co-op. Myself and Christine schedule a few demos throughout the month on various products in the Co-op. I just spoke to her about a possible plant based milk tasting and we have decided to set a date for June 15th from 3:30-5pm. We will have a few different plant based milks for folks to try, so we hope to see you there! As for the beer tasting, we actually have quite a few vendors from our Beer, Wine, & Spirits department come to our store multiple times a month. We try to do our best by keeping customers informed via our social media and sometimes our newsletter. So keep your eye out for those events! Please let me know if you have any other questions.”

Request that we carry:

Vicolo Corn Meal Crust Pizza You carried these pizzas for years and still carry Vicolo’s frozen pizza crust, but I haven’t seen the mushroom pizza (or the other types you use to carry) for a while.

Email Response:

“Thank you for your question. If I’m correct I believe you are referring to the boxed Vicolo cornmeal pizzas? Unfortunately I believe those are discontinued, I looked in multiple distributor catalogs and can’t find them anywhere. However, Vicolo also makes cornmeal pizzas in a plastic package. I will bring those back into the store next week. Thank you”

Comment:

There was a flag on the front door that is extremely offensive and divisive which when I saw caused me to leave without buying anything. Please view the image why this is offensive and not acceptable for any family friendly environment then kindly remove it immediately. It makes me extremely uncomfortable.

Email Response:

“We recently received your feedback expressing your discomfort with the Pride flag displayed at the entrance of our store. The Davis Food Co-op is a community-owned grocery store, and we understand that this community consists of a diverse range of people, each with their unique backgrounds, beliefs, and values. This diversity is a source of strength and pride for us, and it’s something we seek to honor in various ways to be as inclusive as possible. The display of the Pride flag is an extension of this commitment to inclusivity. The flag is a universal symbol of solidarity, acceptance, and equality for the LGBTQ+ community, a group that has been historically marginalized and continues to face discrimination and violence in this country. By displaying this flag, we are showing our support for these individuals who are integral members of our community, customer base, and workforce. We make the declaration that our store, and the people in it, love and support them by offering a place where they can feel safe at all times. The flag is not meant to exclude or offend, but rather to express our store’s commitment to equal rights, fairness, and the belief in the inherent dignity of all people. We understand that some symbols might resonate differently with different individuals. However, our primary responsibility as a co-op is to create an environment that is welcoming and respectful to all members of our community, inclusive of everyone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe that this is indeed a family-friendly value that teaches love, acceptance, and equality. While we certainly don’t wish for any of our customers to feel uncomfortable, we also believe it’s essential to stand firm in our commitment to inclusivity and equal rights. We hope you understand that our intention is not to be divisive, but to celebrate the diverse fabric of our community. With that said, we will not be removing the Pride flag from our window and understand if that leads to you shopping elsewhere. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me directly as I am the one who decided on the Co-op’s behalf that the Pride flag should be proudly displayed.”

Request that we carry:
Hi! Would you consider putting the following items on sale? 1. Wildwood tofu seasoned “cutlets.” So good and so expensive. 2. Mary’s crackers. I know they were on sale a couple months ago. Another idea is to stock larger boxers (apparently costco has bigger boxers–I don’t shop there and prefer to shop locally at Co-op.) Thank you!

Response:

Mary’s Gone Crackers is on promo July A flyer 7/5-7/18. I don’t belive a larger size is available to us via UNFI,I found a 20oz box on Costco’s website, but may be a costco exclusive. I will look to put Wildwood tofu culets on sale.
