Cream Cheese Apple Pie Braid
This Cream Cheese Apple Pie Braid looks fancy, but it's super easy to make. Pair with coffee for breakfast or ice cream for dessert!
1 package of crescent roll dough
3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 tsp vanilla, divided
3 tbsp granulated sugar. divided
1 medium-large apple or 2 small apples, peeled. cored, and chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg
pinch of allspice
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp milk or milk alternative to start
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, mix together softened cream cheese, 1 tbsp sugar, and 1/2 tsp vanilla. In another bowl, combine apples, 2 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
- Remove crescent roll dough from its package. Do not break apart dough where it is perforated. Instead do your best to keep the dough in one piece and lay it across your parchment-lined baking sheet. Press the dough together where the perforations are pulling it apart to seal the dough. Spread the cream cheese mixture down the middle third of the dough (make sure you’re working with the dough lengthwise). Spread apple mixture evenly over the cream cheese.
- Cut 1/2 inch strips into the uncovered dough on either side of the filling. Starting at the top, take the first strip from the left side and fold it over the filling pulling it down slightly. Now do the same with the first strip from the right side. Continue alternately folding strips over the filling until you reach the bottom. When you’ve finished, your dough will look braided. Brush dough with milk or milk alternative and bake for 2o minutes or until golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes.
- In the meantime, make the glaze. Combine powdered sugar, milk, and 1/2 tsp vanilla. If the glaze is too thick to drizzle, add more milk 1/4 tsp at a time. Once cooled, drizzle braid with glaze and top with chopped walnuts.
