Mulled Wine

4 cups fresh apple cider

1 bottle of full-bodied red wine

ΒΌ cup honey or maple syrup

2 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish

zest and juice from one orange

4 whole cloves

3 star anise

orange and lemon slices for garnish

Optional: 1/2 cup tawny port or brandy

Combine apple cider, wine, honey, 2 cinnamon sticks,
orange zest, orange juice, cloves and star anise in a
large saucepan. Heat over medium heat until boiling.
Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10
minutes. Turn off heat, remove whole spices, and stir in port or brandy if using.

Serve mulled wine warm in mugs with orange and lemon slices plus a cinnamon stick for garnish. Cheers!
