Sweet Easter Bread

Difficulty:

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

In a large bowl, whisk together 3½ cups flour, sugar, salt, and citrus zest. Add eggs, melted butter, vanilla, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead for 8–10 minutes, adding more flour if needed, until smooth and elastic.

Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and divide into 2–3 strands. Roll into ropes and braid. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Cover loosely and let rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.

Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with almonds.

Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
