You ask and we listened!
Your Co-op is growing. We are sure you've noticed some changes!
We held focus groups and patio surveys in March, 2018 and found that our owners are dedicated to local, organic produce and the waste free shopping options found in our bulk department. Owners expressed so much love for their Co-op, but at the same time provided constructive feedback for us to improve our store.
The makeover focuses on two main points: sustainability and enhancing the shopping experience. Some key highlights are emphasizing the bulk department by moving it to front and center of the store, increasing our grind your own nut butter selection, upgrading lighting throughout the store, and installing more energy efficient equipment.
We also heard owners say they would like it to be easier to shop in the store. The new layout will make the store much easier to navigate. With wider aisles and lower shelves, products will be easier to access for everyone.
We are hoping to start the construction phase the third week of August and plan to work until the holidays. We will take a short break during Thanksgiving and Christmas and start again when appropriate.
Some of our most recent changes are:
We have updated our produce displays to much more sustainable and customizable dry racks. This new look in our Produce Department will increase the capacity of our local & organic produce. The new produce displays are a beautiful first step. Look for farm feature displays and local farm tags noting which farms the produce came from.
You may have also noticed new wine shelving by the beer cooler. They are easier to shop- no need to find a stool or a tall friend to reach the top shelves! As one customer said when we announced the move, "Thank you from a determined Hobbit. Some of those high shelves are not reachable without a climb."
Missed the bulletin board for hanging up your little shoppers masterpieces? We have added a space for that in the New Kids Corner. We also added new fresh furniture and some giant, fun fruits and veggies to decorate the walls (plus little wooden ones to play with).
Landscaping in the store and Teaching Kitchen is now complete. We partnered with Whole Systems to begin a multi-phase sustainability project that includes rain gardens fed by downspouts, channel drains, and curb cuts. The most recent addition? Stainless steel plant markers to help you identify the native, drought tolerant plants that decorate the landscape.
What is Coming?
Next up will be moving the bulk department into the front of the store on 8/13. While we work on our new Wellness area, these products will have a temporary home in the old wine aisle (aisles 6/7) starting on 8/6.
Water jugs, bottle water and package coffee were moved temporary to the center of the store. On 8/13, there new Lozier shelves will be set in the front of the store.
Thank you for your patience!
